I was pulled into the book from the very first chapter. Touch her and unalive is one of my favorite topes. You will fall in love with Elaria and Atlas, these two have chemistry and tension that leaps off the page. Warning this is a very on the edge of your seat book and keeps you guessing the whole way.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves anything with touch her and unalive vibes, with romance and fantasy.

This. Book. 👏🏼

Crystal Cain wasn't messing around. The world building was immersive without being overwhelming, the pacing kept me glued to the pages, and every chapter left me needing just one more.

Elaria is such a strong, compelling FMC, and Atlas? Consider me absolutely feral. Every interaction was packed with banter, longing and enough unresolved tension to have me kicking my feet and begging for more.

The secrets slowly unravelling kept me on the edge of my seat, and that cliffhanger? Absolutely diabolical. I need book two immediately, pls. 💜

The first half of the book is basically the FMC stumbling around in the dark, terrified of what she doesn’t know about herself while everyone else seems determined to keep her in the dark and terrified of who she is. She’s isolated, vulnerable, and constantly feels broken because she cannot identify what/who she is. Nothing makes sense for her and it shows.

The second half is where things finally click and the foreshadowing you missed in the first half, pieces itself in the next half. As she starts uncovering the truth about who she is, she comes into her own, and it was satisfying watching her go from hiding in the shadows to actually embracing her power.

The pacing never really drags, which kept me turning pages, and I liked that most of the characters were somewhere between enjoyable and “I would happily throw you off a cliff.” The author sprinkles little clues and Easter eggs throughout the story, so looking back, a lot of the reveals feel earned instead of coming out of nowhere.

There are a few characters with stories that feel unfinished, but I believe it sets the scene for Book 2.

Also…. Let me take a moment to appreciate an author who knows how to end a book without emotionally holding readers hostage? There’s enough left to make me want the sequel, but none of the devastating cliffhangers that make you stalk the authors IG for works in progress.

Overall, a fun, fast-paced romantasy with tons of mystery & secrets, love tension, and just enough shadow daddy energy to keep it entertaining.

I REALLY LOVED THIS BOOK

I absolutely love this story, it has betrayal, loss, love, magic and hope. There was a moment it started to get a little stagnant but then it completely shifted, the world's are descriptive. The main character Elaria is strong even when she seems weak. She overcomes and fights for what she believes in over and over. Betrayal decides where her fate rests but she decides how she answers. I can't wait till book 2!
